His office said in a statement Wednesday that Lieu was admitted to George Washington University Hospital Monday evening with chest pain but that checks showed no signs of a heart attack or heart damage. He later underwent a successful stent surgery after a CT scan showed partial blockage of an artery.

“He is in good spirits and plans to be back at work next week,” Marc Cevasco, Lieu’s chief of staff, said in the statement.

“He is now recovering and will likely be discharged from the hospital later today. Congressman Lieu is deeply grateful to all the dedicated professionals at the OAP and GW University Hospital,” he added. “He does plan to watch a lot of TV as he recovers.”

Lieu, a member of the House Judiciary Committee, has risen to national prominence with his frequent cable news appearances and scathing attacks on President TrumpDonald John TrumpRepublicans consider skipping witnesses in Trump impeachment trial Bombshell Afghanistan report bolsters calls for end to ‘forever wars’ Lawmakers dismiss Chinese retaliatory threat to US tech MORE.

His absence come as the Judiciary Committee, along with several other committees, unveiled articles of impeachment against the president over his dealings with Ukraine.
